Brandywine Valley, PA
The Brandywine Valley is the site of the Revolutionary
War
Battle of Brandywine, museums and gardens, including the
Brandywine River Museum, the
Hagley
Museum and Library, the
Winterthur
Museum, the
Delaware
Art Museum, the
Longwood Gardens, and acres of lush, beautiful farmlands.
The Village site is approximately 35 miles from Philadephia, Pennsylvania,
where the United States began. The United States Constitution, the
Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights were all written in the
city, and Philadelphia is also the home of the Liberty Bell, one of the
country's most important national treasures.
Philadelphia is the home of Independence Hall, where the Declaration of
Independence was written and signed. View these, and other significant
landmarks by visiting an
historical Philadelphia virtual tour.
Philadelphia is a treasure-trove of interesting architecture; read about
significant periods from colonial times to the present on the
American Institute of Architects, Philadelphia, site.

Historic
Valley Forge is approximately twenty miles from the Village. General George
Washington and his troops spent the terrible winter of 1777 - 1778 in what is
now a National Park Service site. That winter marked a turning point in the
Revolutionary War; it was here that Baron Friedrich Wilhelm Augustus von
Steuben, a former Prussian military officer, trained and revitalized
Washington's forces - a feat which eventually led to independence for the United
States.
